What is the TI-30XS MultiView Calculator?

The TI-30XS MultiView is Texas Instruments' best-selling 4-line scientific calculator. Released in 2008, it introduced MathPrint mode — a textbook-style display that shows fractions, exponents, and roots exactly as they appear on paper. This makes it dramatically easier to spot input errors compared to single-line scientific calculators. The TI-30XS is the standard scientific calculator in many U.S. middle schools and is approved for the SAT, ACT, AP, and most state assessments.

TI-30XS MultiView Key Features

  • MathPrint mode — fractions appear stacked, exponents appear raised, and roots appear under the radical, just like in your textbook
  • 4-line display — review and edit previous entries without re-typing
  • Fraction conversion — toggle between fractions and decimals with one button
  • Two-variable statistics — mean, median, standard deviation, regression
  • Solar + battery hybrid on the physical device — works in all lighting conditions
  • Permitted on standardized tests — SAT, ACT, PSAT, AP, GED, and most state exams

How to Use TI-30XS Online

The on-screen TI-30XS works like its physical counterpart. To enter a fraction, press the n/d key, type the numerator, press the down arrow to move to the denominator, then type the denominator and press ENTER. To toggle between fraction and decimal output, press 2nd → ⇄ (the conversion key). For exponents, press the ^ key — the exponent appears raised, and the cursor returns to the base after you press the right arrow.

TI-30XS for SAT, ACT and PSAT Exams

The TI-30XS MultiView is one of the most-recommended calculators for the ACT Math section. The ACT does not allow graphing calculators with a Computer Algebra System (CAS), but the TI-30XS — being a non-CAS scientific calculator — passes every test policy without issue. For the SAT, both scientific and graphing calculators are allowed, but many tutors recommend students bring both: the TI-30XS for fast arithmetic and the TI-84 Plus CE for graphing-heavy problems.

TI-30XS vs TI-84: Which is Right for You?

If your math classes are pre-algebra, algebra, or geometry, the TI-30XS is enough — it costs about $20 vs $130 for a TI-84. If you take precalculus, statistics, calculus, or AP math, the TI-84 is the better investment because graphing is essential. Below is a quick comparison:
